Get rid of neck pain - The Ayurveda way

The literal pain in the neck can be due to injury or a mechanical or muscular problem. Most people would have experienced this discomfort at some point in their life. Neck pain is most commonly suffered by women, than by men. And the degree of pain can range from very mild discomfort to severe, burning pain. If the pain is acute and sudden, it is called a crick in the neck or muscular rheumatism. And if the pain has lasted for more than three months, it is termed chronic neck pain.

Neck pains can be caused by trauma or injury, worry and stress, falling asleep in an awkward position, and by prolonged use of computer. While the general pain located in the neck area results in stiffness in the neck muscles, the pain may radiate down to the shoulders or between the shoulder blades.

 

The diagnosis of neck pain is done by checking for trapped nerved by the movement of the neck, by examination of the muscles, movements of the joints of the spine, neck and hands. To get rid of this acute discomfort, an exercise program to strengthen the neck is a good idea.

Pranayama and other neck exercises relax the neck stress. According to Ayurveda, medicines used in this treatment include Thailams, Churnams, Asavams, Aristams, Ghrithams, Leyhaus prepared from Ayurvedic herbs based on the severity, stage of the disease and age of the patient. Vatahara, Brumhana oushada ahara, Vihara are also advised. In Ayurveda, Sodana and Samava treatments are available.
