Insomnia is a disorder that makes it hard for one to fall asleep or stay asleep. It takes a toll on one's ability to function normally during the day. This condition not only affects the energy levels, but also mood, health, work performance and overall quality of life.
Insomnia can be caused by stress, anxiety, depression, adequate medication, usage of stimulants, change in the body's environment or work schedule, poor sleep habits, learned insomnia (worrying not being able to sleep), eating too much in the late evening and aging. Complications include lower productivity, bad reflex, psychiatric problems, obesity, poor immune system function, high-blood pressure, heart diseases and diabetes. In Ayurveda, insomnia is known as “Andria”.
