Insomnia is a disorder that makes it hard for one to fall asleep or stay asleep. It takes a toll on one's ability to function normally during the day. This condition not only affects the energy levels, but also mood, health, work performance and overall quality of life.

Insomnia can be caused by stress, anxiety, depression, adequate medication, usage of stimulants, change in the body's environment or work schedule, poor sleep habits, learned insomnia (worrying not being able to sleep), eating too much in the  late evening and aging. This disorder also calls for various other health issues.

Difficulty in falling asleep at night, awakening during the night or too early, daytime fatigue or sleeplessness, irritability, difficulty in paying attention, headaches or gastro intestinal symptoms are some of the signs of insomnia. Complications include lower productivity, bad reflex, psychiatric problems, obesity, poor immune system function, high-blood pressure, heart diseases and diabetes. In Ayurveda, insomnia is known as “Andria”.

Sleep is equally important as is healthy diet and regular exercise. Ayurveda helps balance the doshas responsible for insomnia, bringing about equilibrium in the body by restoring health and peace of mind naturally, which eventually leads to sound sleep.

The treatment mainly focuses on balancing the aggravated body emerged through herbal medicines, as well as customized diet and lifestyle plan. Besides, relaxation of mind is also an important aspect of the treatment.
