It has been evidenced that naturopathic treatment can help reduce the risk of heart disease. Naturopathy involves the use of natural substances to improve and maintain a healthy life by treating various health conditions including heart diseases. The treatment uses diet, herbs, manipulation of the body, exercise, stress reduction and acupuncture. Important aspects of the therapy are herbs and supplements such as folate, garlic, niacin, fish oil, red yeast rice and soy.

According to experts, naturopathic care accompanied by enhanced usual care may help reduce heart disease risk in high-risk populations. The conventional medicine approach is often aimed towards controlling high cholesterol, high blood pressure and so on. However, these medications do not address the root cause but can manage symptoms for short term, while using medications for long term may produce side effects. This fact makes naturopathic medicine an ideal solution for managing heart diseases.

Heart Diseases:

Heart diseases is the term used for a bunch of diseases that mainly affects muscles and blood vessels of the heart which ultimately decreases pumping ability of the heart causing insufficient supply of blood through and by the body. There are many different types of heart disease, but the most common one is the coronary artery disease (CAD) which leads to heart attack or stroke. Some other heart ailments include Hypertension, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, atherosclerosis, arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation etc.

Symptoms of heart disease:

Although, every heart disease has different symptoms, diagnosis and treatment approaches for all types of heart diseases are similar as they share few common symptoms which include:

  • Chest pain
  • Pain in the arm or below the breast bone
  • Discomfort and pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heaviness in the heart
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Palpitation
  • Weakness, anxiety and fatigue

Naturopathic Diagnosis of Heart Diseases:

Naturopathy expert assess one’s health, based on diet and lifestyle factors as these are normally linked to them. Following tests are recommended after assessing the health of the patient.

History assessment is often followed by:

Blood tests: To rule out lipid profile, homocysteine levels and C-reactive protein levels.

Electrocardiograms: To find out the electrical conductivity of the heart, usually a Doppler echocardiogram to assess the cardiac output.

CT scan: To rule out if they have calcium deposits in the coronary arteries.

Naturopathic treatment:

Naturopathic treatment is usually based on the test results. For instance, in patients with high levels of homocysteine (that can damage blood vessel linings) the most effective treatment option is supplementation of vitamins B6, B12, folic acid, and an amino acid called glycine. Some of the other important aspects of naturopathy treatments include:

Limit or quit consumption of dairy products: If you are consuming lot of milk/cheese then you should limit or avoid eating those. These pasteurized products contain an enzyme called xanthine oxidase which may cause inflammation and damage to the lining of the blood vessels.

Supplements - Arginine
In case of angina or chest pain, the main form of treatment is the amino acid arginine supplementation. Arginine has the ability to stimulate the production of natural nitric oxide which ultimately dilates the blood vessels and initiates its healing.

Naturopathy Diet
According to naturopathy experts all the patients with heart disease should implement a nutritional plan consisting of organic whole foods and non-processed foods. In addition to this few supplements such as essential vitamins and minerals are recommended. Naturopathy medicines have proven to be highly effective when it is accompanied by recommended forms of appropriate exercises and stress-management  plan.

Naturopathy ways to prevent the heart diseases:

Appropriate treatment with naturopathy always results in better control over disease and symptoms. To prevent or reverse the heart disease adoption of  the natural lifestyle  is highly effective. Some important lifestyle adaptations include:

  • Consuming  whole and organic foods
