Ask A Doctor - Accidental Bowel Leakage - DesiMD Healthcare Services

hello, I have had accidental bowel l e make for the past two years. I will have a bowel movement. I will wipe clean and then when I come back 20 minutes later to wipe again, it is liked I never wiped the first time. I've seen 3 doctors so far. I have increased fiber, increased water, and have have biofeedback therapy. I have had an anal manometry which indicated that I had dyssnergia type 3. the doctor says that I have a small fissure that is causing anal spasms and Would like to do a lateral internal sphincterotomy. I am not sure if this will help with the leakage. I strained my whole life growing up probably to the age of 14. I am 21 now. I have heard that the only procedure that really helps is InterStim. btw, the three doctors I saw were a gastroenterologist, pelvic floor specialist, and a colorectal surgeon. - Asked by j k on 15-Mar-2015 21:35:41

    Hi,

Usually dyssynergia results in constipation, where as you seems to be having diarrhea. I guess you are taking too much fiber or liquid that is causing your symptom. Try take normal diet and see whether your symptoms improve. I also think surgery is a last resort and needs to exhaust all other options before undergoing this.
