Infection or Flu

Dear friends living in USA

Influenza is rapidly spreading this year in USA. More than 25 states have been reported to be affected. Texas is one of the states experiencing widespread activity. Respiratory illness like pneumonia are affecting young and middle aged individuals and are fatal. Please do not neglect

Symptoms may include fever, headache, body aches, sore throat, cough, chills. Rapid influenza tests can some times detect flu but negative test doesn't mean you don't have it.

Stay home at least for 24 hours till your fever is subsided with an exception of going to physician. Wear a mask to prevent spread to household people.

With your physicians recommendation start taking meds like tamiflu to reduce severity of flu. There has been reports that tamiflu resistant strains are being seen.

Elderly (above 65, young kids, people with COPD/ lung diseases/ kidney diseases/ liver diseases/ diabetics/ immunosupressed people etc.. are more affected and flu can be fatal in them.

Last but not least, if you are not vaccinated and there is no contraindications, please get vaccinated. CDC recommends vaccination in people older than 6 months.

Be safe!
