Looking for super-food? Black raspberries are the ones. A new study (published in the Open Chemistry Journal) indicates that common blackberry and raspberry fruits contain good amount of antioxidant properties, with the black-raspberry topping the list among the three types of berries.

Black raspberries helps diminish or reverse the effects of free radicals-- high-energy particles that damage cells and are closely associated with cancer, heart disease, arthritis, respiratory diseases or stroke. In order to look at the health benefits of these berries, researchers from the University of Agriculture, Krakow determined the content of antioxidant activity in three berries: black raspberries, red raspberries and blackberries to assess their antioxidant potential and health benefits.

Study Findings:  Researchers found that the amount of antioxidants in black raspberries was three times higher as compared to other fruits. Moreover, black raspberries also contain higher level of secondary metabolites that have been proved to be effective for human health.

However, researchers conclude that antioxidant rich black raspberry has immense health benefits. As there is no significant difference in the antioxidant levels whether the fruits were collected in summer or autumn, they can stay a rich source of antioxidants all around the year.
