Enamel hyperesthesia: medicines and remedies to eliminate tooth sensitivity

Are you experiencing sharp pain from hot tea or cold ice cream, sweet “comes” into your teeth, chuvstvitelnost zubov sour and even cold air, and regular cleaning is accompanied by discomfort? The presence of these symptoms indicates problems in the enamel that caused the development of hypersensitivity of the teeth. According to a Danish study, 8% of people experience similar sensations every day, 25% – once a week and 77% – from time to time.

Enamel serves as a protection for dentin, permeated with nerve endings. Under the influence of aggressive factors (physical, chemical), the surface layer is thinned or destroyed, opening access to the sensitive bone substance of the tooth. Because of this, a person begins to experience discomfort and painful sensations.

What does enamel suffer from?

There are many reasons for such a problem with enamel. Here are the main ones:

  • dental (microcracks, deformity of teeth, periodontitis, gum atrophy, caries). Unpleasant sensations occur when the cervical or basal zone is exposed due to inflammation or changes in the structure of the parotid tissues.
  • bad habits and unhealthy diet. The thinning of enamel is facilitated by the abuse of smoking, alcoholic beverages, fatty foods, marinades, spicy spices and seasonings. Food containing various types of acids is especially dangerous for teeth. After eating citrus fruits, apples, berries, as well as carbonated drinks and lemonades, experts recommend mouthwash with water or specialized solutions. Hot or cold is harmful to the enamel, even worse – a sharp temperature drop.
  • improper oral hygiene. The use of hard brushes, highly abrasive pastes, abuse of dental floss, toothpicks, rinses and poor-quality bleaching leads to premature thinning of the upper layer of the tooth and the appearance of foci of hypersensitivity. Patients with a tendency to hypersensitivity or with diseases that weaken the immune system, it is better to refuse cleaning with ultrasound.
  • hormonal failure in the body, leading to a violation of mineral metabolism (for example, during pregnancy or menopause). Hyperesthesia can be caused by an acute shortage of calcium, manganese, as well as fluorine and phosphorus compounds. This pathology is manifested by white spots on the dental surface.

How to deal with hyperesthesia?

In case of hypersensitivity of the teeth, you should consult a dentist-therapist. The use of painkillers to get rid of discomfort is ineffective. Hyperesthesia is treated with special medications with the addition of complex measures, including diet, therapeutic and preventive oral care products. To eliminate its signs, the dentist performs special procedures in the office (in case of severe symptoms or complications) or prescribes medications for home use.

Folk medicine against hyperesthesiotvari

Herbs sometimes weaken the sensitivity of the enamel, however, dentists do not recommend them as the main treatment. A moderate analgesic effect is provided by a mixture of burdock and chamomile. Herbal medicine is prepared in the form of a decoction, which is rinsed out of the mouth. In equal proportions, dried chamomile and burdock (1 spoon each) are mixed, poured with boiling water (a glass) and boiled for 20 minutes over low heat. The cooled and filtered decoction is rinsed 4 times a day.

Symptoms are relieved by a decoction of oak bark and calamus rhizomes. It is necessary to pour two tablespoons of natural raw materials with two glasses of boiling water and boil in a water bath until the liquid is reduced by half. This drug is rinsed in the morning and evening, and if possible throughout the day.

A combination of fir and eucalyptus oil is used for local treatment of problem areas or rinses. In the first case, a tampon is moistened in a mixture of oils and the gums are wiped at the base of the teeth. In the second case, an aqueous solution is prepared. Two drops of eucalyptus oil and three drops of fir oil are added to cold boiled water (180 ml). The mixture is thoroughly mixed.

Brush and paste for hyperesthesia

Hygienic care with the use of brushes of the required hardness and special pastes will help to combat hypersensitivity. For sensitive teeth, medium-hard bristles are suitable. Its structure is able to maintain dental health without harming the enamel. During an exacerbation of hyperesthesia, brushing your teeth for 2 weeks is recommended with a soft brush. In case of painful sensations in the teeth, the use of special pastes. Regular use of a properly selected paste gives results already on the tenth day. To prevent the problem from returning, it is necessary to use a paste for sensitive teeth constantly.

Special toothpastes help with hyperesthesia if the protective layer is not badly damaged. But when, with regular use, the sensitivity does not decrease after two weeks– you should seek professional help.

In the case of advanced hyperesthesia, when all methods of treatment do not give effect, iontophoresis is prescribed. The method consists in applying electrodes with a medicinal solution to the teeth. By means of a weak electric current, the necessary elements penetrate into the enamel, saturating and strengthening the protective layer of the tooth. Vitamins are prescribed simultaneously with ionophoresis. It is worth noting that the lack of vitamin A in the body also leads to thinning of tooth enamel. It is possible to make up for the deficiency by diversifying the diet with dishes from carrots, liver and eggs.

With timely and regular visits to the dentist, it is possible to eliminate the predominant part of the causes of hypersthesia. Comprehensive, systematically repeated treatment and compliance with preventive measures will allow you to forget about the symptoms of enamel sensitivity forever.
